This was a pretty inspiring manifesto! I appreciate Bishop Spong's refreshing perspective in regards to homosexuality. I actually had a chance recently to test what he is referring to, in terms of refusing to validate an unjustifiable point with debate. A student likened Obama to Hitler, and the only resonable thing to say was that we had no common ground with which to speak. I agree that arguing a point that is not reasonable gives it some weight.

However, I also understand your perspective that a dialogue does need to continue. I just fear that people rarely ever alter such deeply entrenched beliefs. I definitely agree with you that the victory is not won and the battle is not over.

Can I link to this blog from mine, or to Clergy United? (I'm the NCCUCC attendee interested in blogging.)

Thanks, Delya, for your very thoughtful comments. The Obama/Hitler comparison is quite apt! I'm sure we will find many other applications in the days ahead.

You certainly may use this blog and my website in any way you see fit. Let's stay in touch.
